Tuesday, July 2, 2002. 1018pm. Seoul, Korea.
why is it that i'm always updating this around 10pm?
today, i'm at a different family member's apt. i am now spending a little bit of time with my mom's side of the family. actually, i'm not totally sure how i'm related, but i'm going to assume that my "sahmchoon" (uncle) is my mom's cousin because he is not my mom's brother. i kinda feel bad for him. aside from his son-in-law, he's the only guy in his family. he has four daughters and even his grandchild is a little girl. i think that's kind of funny. but seriously, of all the relatives that i have visited, girls seem to be predominant. today, i went out with my cousins, i guess that's what they are. the two youngest ones are still in college and we're all pretty close in age. the youngest daughter is actually a year younger than i am and the older one is about 2 or 3 years older. we went to seoul national science museum to check out an exhibit called the real body. it's called the real body because it consists of real bodies that have been preserved and dissected and who knows what else. thankfully, they weren't dissected with formaldehyde or i would have vomited. but i have to admit, they were pretty cool, in a disturbing kind of way. the part of the exhibit that really weirded me out were the preserved embryos (5wks.-8wks.), the fetuses, and the fetuses with deformations. and then the arteries that were preserved in a way to maintain the shape of whatever limb, organ, or animal that they came from was just unnerving. afterwards, we went to insadong to check it out. it's not a shopping plaza like myongdong or dongdaemun. instead, this is a street where the stores sell "art" stuff. some of the stores handle a few artists and these aren't all paintings. sometimes, the artist make jewelry or they make dishes and cups and things out of porcelein. pretty nice stuff that comes with a hefty price tag. it was pretty neat and i'd like to go back there just to look around one more time.
