Saturday, June 29, 2002. 958pm. Seoul, Korea.
sad, korea just lost to turkey in the 3rd place match 3-2. however, at the end, the turkish players grabbed the hands of the korean players and ran around the pitch with them. i thought that was a nice touch. it appears that koreans like the turks because turkey sent over about 15,000 troops to aid korea in the korean war. and another good thing, the second korean goal was scored by song chong guk, who is a Christian. after he scored, he knelt down and offered a brief prayer.
on a more serious note, north korea and south korea were involved in a naval border dispute which ended with a north korean patrol boat opening fire on the south korean botes. one of the south korean boats were sunk and 18 were injured and 4 were killed. those that were killed were either 22 or 26, which means that they were probably in goondae. i feel so bad for those mothers whose sons won't be coming home at the end of their military service. let's pray that these two countries will not go to war, although cynically, i must say that this isn't the first time this has happened. http://www.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/asiapcf/east/06/29/korea.warships/index.html
