Monday, June 24, 2002. 1111pm. Seoul, Korea.
man, i'm really getting sick and tired of all the people bashing korea. i'm sorry you lost the match due to poor officiating, but please, don't even try to say that korea bribed the officials. seriously, the world cup is NOT that big a deal. aside from that, i really hope korea advances to the finals tomorrow after they beat germany and that the germans will behave a whole lot better than the italians and the spaniards, although the spanish team was alot better than the italians. i read that in italy, the police had to physically restrain an italian mob from inflicting physical damage to a group of celebrating koreans. and talk about sore losers, after korea beat italy, ahn jung hwan, who played for perugia in italy was fired. nice, huh? the spokesperson blamed him for ruining the sport of football. let's think about that a little. who is actually ruining the sport? the person who played his heart out for his nation or the whining crybabies? unfortunately, it seems as if most of the world has taken the stance that for korea to have made it this far, they must have used devious means. it's sad and sometimes, i can't help wondering if that is because soccer is a predominantly white european sport. do they feel as if the koreans are upstarts and need to be put down? can't they attribute the wins to hard work, great coaching, and tremendous luck? it's not as if the koreans haven't had their share of poor officiating. there were certain moments in various matches (korea vs. italy) when they were getting tackled and hit by their opponents, only to have those opponents get away with it. for the first time, i'm actually getting into the world cup and am actually excited at how far the korean team has come. unfortunately, all of that excitement is turning stale due to the poor sportsmanship.
